When I founded Argentum on June 1, 2006, I could only hope that 20 years later I’d still be loving my clients, my work, and the life of an entrepreneur. Many of you have heard the story about how my job as Director of Marketing at Equal sweetener was eliminated the night before I took my first vacation. While it was a shock to me and the Equal team, it signaled an emerging unmet need in the mid-market and growth-stage space: my strategic marketing leadership provided an impactful value-add for companies, but they didn’t necessarily need me full-time. As I kayaked along the coast of Brazil’s Ilha Grande, I sketched out my business model. I’d assess my clients’ category and competitors, develop their positioning, create a strategic marketing roadmap, and set their marketing execution on a path to success. Unlike traditional consulting firms, we would deliver upfront strategic work and then offer a follow-on retainer arrangement. While on retainer, I would help coach, mentor and train any marketing staff, as well as hire and manage outside agencies. Over the last 20 years, Argentum has worked with 130 clients nationwide, spanning both B2B and B2C, with some names you’ve probably heard of, like Morningstar, Amylu Foods, Columbus Craft Meats, and Matterport, and some you may not have, like Aldridge, Aldon, and Rise Baking Company. One of our key success metrics has always been repeat clients, and we’ve been fortunate to have many. We’re so proud that we’ve worked with our longest-running client, Savant Wealth Management, intermittently for 13 years across 10 different projects. And while many of our follow-on retainer relationships span less than one year, we’re thrilled to be entering Year Five of partnering with Challenger Breadware, our longest continuous partnership.
